Anna and Friedrich in Nosferatu (2024)
In a previous post I mentioned how important I think Friedrich is in the story as a representation of the patriarchal ideal, and how it/he crumbles when confronted by everything that has been suppressed in Ellen (manifested in the unavoidable, terrifying form of Orlok). I also think he is a mirror to Orlok in some ways: he says twice how he just cannot resist Anna, he subtly frames his desire for her as an unwilling "affliction." He also defiles Anna's body and his sacred marriage vows by engaging in necrophilia, because his appetite for her is so consuming - he can't resist her even when she's not even there anymore. Ellen's necrophilic act with Orlok represents her unification with the parts of herself that are suppressed/rejected by the men in her life, good and bad. It's dark and fucked up but metaphorically transformative, and consent is absolutely central. Friedrich's necrophilic act involves no consent, no Anna, and it lacks any metaphorical power. He didn't accomplish anything, he just succumbed to his own horror and amplified it.
Friedrich's unhealthy approach to his relationship with Anna consumes them both, and I think this theme is especially evident in the way Anna's pregnancy is discussed. Friedrich tells Thomas that they are expecting but doesn't want it mentioned in front of Anna or Ellen, probably because it wasn't supposed to be public yet. In victorian times people would rarely confirm a pregnancy before the woman was "showing" both because it was considered a private matter and because miscarriage was way more common. But Friedrich tells Thomas early anyways, because he is excited and proud, which is understandable but also selfish in this context. Furthermore, Anna says that "little Friedrich" is "very hungry, just like his father" and later on after Orlok has fed on her, she passes it off as feeling drained by the baby. Even though she seems happy and loves her family, she associates pregnancy with being drained.
This alienated way of understanding parenthood is also evident in the way Friedrich and Anna treat their girls (Louise and Clara I think?) They obviously both adore the girls, but they ignore their terror and assume the monster they see in their room is totally unrelated to all the other scary shit going on, because they're just silly little kids imagining things, right? One girl literally says "I can hear him breathing under my neck!" and they beg Anna not to leave them alone at night, but they are just hushed and told that they're totally safe. It's exactly the kind of dismissal Ellen has been getting her whole life, and so it's not surprising that the girls are haunted by Orlok before anyone else. It's not enough to adore little girls, they will never be safe until they are heard and believed.
Anna as a character apart from her role as wife and mother is a bit harder to parse out, but I think she is also a mirror for Ellen. Ellen's spiritual power is the catalyst for everything that happens, and von Franz says that "in heathen times you might have been a Priestess of Isis." Anna's spiritual inclination is less obvious, but it's there: she seriously listens to Ellen and believes that she is perceiving something real, she just assumes it must be God. Later when she lets Ellen stay with her for the night, she says "God is with us Lenny, I know it." On some level Anna is also in touch with that supernatural, suppressed feminine truth, and she seems to see through the patriarchal facade that Friedrich represents to some degree. But ultimately Anna wants to convince herself and Ellen that the night terrors were just caused by Thomas' absence, and that Ellen just needed her husband back and all would be well. When Thomas does return and Ellen has her faculties again, Anna is very eager to put it all behind them; 'no more talk of demons please, let's just focus on Christmas and being a happy family'. Anna's downfall is that she puts all her faith in the Christian patriarchal narrative even when she can clearly see that there's more going on. Her faith in the Christian God contrasts Ellen's "heathen" spirituality - both women have an innate spiritual sense, but one is more willing to make it fit into the values of their society. Ultimately Anna was consumed by the horror of their alienated position in society just like Ellen was, she just died with less agency.

Hello, I came to say that dragons are mythical creatures often depicted to be possessive in mythology and literature, sometimes known for their immense power, territorial instincts, and the symbolic association with hoarding wealth and treasures...
Twisted Wonderland in context, Malleus Draconia was confirmed to be a dragon fairy (essentially a dragon who can take a shape of a man), and I was curious if Malleus may have exhibited possessive traits in canon, whether through main story or vignette...?
The reason I ask that is because mischaracterizing characters or making them OOC is the last thing I want to do when it comes to writing or analyzing...
**Sorry if I was not able to word it in a way that you can understand what I'm trying to convey because sometimes I feel inferior that my wording may come off as blunt or insensitive. I just want to leave a brief note that I don't mean to come off as rude or dismissive. I appreciate your understanding!**
In my opinion, Malleus in canon is protective but not possessive. What do I mean by that? Glad you asked. Let's start by laying down some definitions.
In this situation, when I say “protective”, it implies good intentions. It means actively looking out for others' safety and wellbeing. To be possessive, on the other hand, implies a more controlling desire to own or to restrict another's actions. It’s commanding and demanding all of a person’s attention and love. It means having a disrespect for others' autonomy and instead trying to displace it with your will. (Yes, I know that you're probably automatically thinking of The Big Exception of book 7, but I will address that later in this post so hang on for a moment!)
This gets long, so buckle up! We’ve got a lot to talk about.
First thing's first, a lot of the "possessive Malleus" interpretations originate from fandom, especially when it comes to yandere, yume, or generally romantic fan works. (And to be clear: This is NOT to shame the folks who enjoy these kinds of works; I am only listing them here as examples.) Oftentimes this occurs due to individual fans bringing in ideas from media outside the bounds of Twisted Wonderland. This is totally expected and normal; there is no such thing as someone who has an interest in ONLY a singular thing. We will naturally apply our previous knowledge to help us understand and interpret new information.
For example, in irl mythology, fae are hurt by iron--and even in Disney's own films, such as Maleficent, iron is depicted as harming fae and sapping them of their power. This led to many Twst fans headcanoning that iron does the same thing to fae in Twisted Wonderland. However, we learn in book 7 that this is NOT true. Fae, particularly nobles, do find the smell of iron nauseating, but the metal does not appear to impede their powers or hinder them in any way. Lilia and his men are still able to dispatch several Silver Owls (who are dressed in iron arm and battle with iron tanks and other machinery) without issue.
Another example that’s pretty popular is fans believing that whole “if you tell a fairy your name, it grants them power over you” thing. Some have claimed this will come into play in book 7’s final battle. Others claim this is the deeper or secondary reason as to why Malleus doesn’t reveal his own name to Yuu until book 5, as giving his name would grant Yuu power over him. However, there’s nothing in-universe to suggest that names have cultural significance to fae or that any sort of power or status is granted by relinquishing one’s name. Yuu (or Malleus’s hundreds of other classmates) have also demonstrated no such control over him.
Remember: what is true outside of Twst, including in Disney's own works, is NOT necessarily true inside of Twst.
Going back to the initial question, I believe that "Malleus is possessive" is also a headcanon of a similar vein; fans are coming into Twst familiar with other mythos which state that dragons are possessive, territorial, and greedy on top of being powerful. Because Malleus is a dragon fae and is known to possess great power, it's very easy for fans to see the parallels between him and the dragons they already know of. This then leads to them filling in the gaps of his personality and projecting other stereotypical draconic traits onto him. In Malleus's case, this was extremely easy to do because it took a few years for him to see any significant spotlight in both event stories (Glorious Masquerade) and in the main story (book 7).
I think the easiest way for us to analyze whether Malleus is protective or possessive is to examine his closest relationships in the narrative of Twst. I will not be counting Sebek and Silver individually here, as they are both his bodyguards and Malleus maintains a mostly professional relationship with them. Instead, we shall look at Malleus's attitude by looking at his relationships with Lilia and Yuu, then proceed into discussing related behaviors.
I believe it's indisputable that Lilia is one of the most important people to Malleus. Lilia trained him, taught him, and trained him. He is basically Malleus's father figure. The fear of losing Lilia is what causes Malleus to emotionally spiral and take drastic measures in a desperate attempt to avoid that unhappy ending. His entire motivation for unleashing his UM is "not losing [Lilia]!" You would think that if Malleus was going to be possessive of anyone, it would be with Lilia. But the truth of the matter is... he's mostly just... not? Lilia is a very sociable person in the student body. He's frequently gaming with Idia, taking care of or lending wisdom to others (Silver, Sebek, etc.), hanging out with Cater and Kalim in their club, interacting with dorm leaders and freshmen when Malleus is absent for ceremonies, and more--yet Malleus doesn't seem to express any jealousy over sharing Lilia. I'd also like to add that although Malleus lacks parents, he doesn't really show envy over Lilia treating and calling Silver his own son instead of himself. Oh, Malleus certainly does express jealousy to some extent. Who would forget the time in his Dorm Uniform vignettes when he crushed Lilia's phone? The thing is though, the times when Malleus is upset are not fueled by not wanting to share Lilia or wanting to monopolize his time. In the previous example I cited, Malleus broke Lilia's phone because Lilia had received a picture Kalim and the other dorm leaders took after a meeting. Even the dialogue exchanged implies this; Malleus did not automatically get mad when he noticed that Lilia had a notification, he only got mad after realizing he was excluded from something the other dorm leaders were all involved in. Malleus was upset that he was not invited, not that Kalim was texting Lilia. Additionally, it is stated that the dorm leader must grant permission for others to use the lounge. If he wanted to, he could withhold the permission for Lilia, who wants the lounge for his farewell party (which everyone is invited to), or stipulate that he wants a more formal affair with just Diasomnia members present. Malleus doesn’t act in this possessive way though. He grants Lilia what he desires without issue.
Next up for scrutiny is Yuu! Now, there's some gray area here because part of Yuu's relationship with Malleus is defined by how much the player projects onto the self-insert/blank slate character. Please note that, when I discuss Yuu, I am leaving out individual interpretations and going STRICTLY by the information presenting in canon.
It can be said that Malleus slowly develops a fondness for Yuu's company over the course of the main story. At first, he is surprised and maybe even a little disappointed that someone has taken residence in Ramshackle--it used to be desolate, which makes it a perfect spot to visit on his nightly strolls. However, Malleus soon finds amusement in the fact that Yuu, not being of this world, has no clue who he is or what his status is. This grants him the freedom to speak at ease with this human and to "be himself" in a way that he cannot be with others, who typically cower at his name. You could also argue that Yuu telling Malleus they may have found a way home expedited the despair he felt in book 7, as he learned so quickly that two of his friends would be exiting his life soon. This, however, is not possessiveness. It's normal to have fear and anxiety about losing the people you love.
Malleus's voice lines also do not indicate possessiveness. Yes, there's the usual and expected fanservice-y lines where he invites Yuu to come and engage in various activities with him, but nothing in those suggests he would exclude others or become upset if they also wanted to join. (Are you telling me that Malleus wouldn't want to talk for hours on end about the glory of gargoyles to TWO people instead of just one?????) Additionally, all the characters get similar fanservice-y lines, so it's not something exclusive to Malleus. There was one line that gave me pause: "You always seem to attract a crowd... More so than I'd like, really." Buuut I think this could be read a number of ways, not solely in an ‘I want you all to myself’ way. Malleus actually goes like to be alone, hence his nightly strolls. The line can therefore also be read as Malleus enjoying solitude or one-on-one conversations as opposed to addressing a group. In that case, it's a personal preference and not necessarily a sign of possessiveness. He’s definitely not completely averse to group activities though; there are lines where Malleus invites Yuu to do things with him and other characters. For example, from his PE Uniform: “Sebek has been badgering me to help train him. I'll permit you to join us. ... You're coming, I trust?”
The guy generally doesn't get angry or annoyed if Yuu mentions having other friends or managing the 7 member VDC/SDC group. In fact, he sometimes encourages Yuu to interact with others. One of his birthday lines is, "You needn't linger and focus on me to the exclusion of others. I want everyone to enjoy the party, yourself included." Malleus doesn’t so much as flinch or react when a complete stranger kisses the back of Yuu’s hand either. If he was truly possessive, wouldn’t he have gotten angry or—at the very least—have frowned or tried to put some distance between Yuu and said stranger? Yet Malleus doesn’t really react or comment on it despite being present.
Malleus seems to understand that it's not very polite to demand all of someone's time or attention--and this makes perfect sense of his character. He is a royal, and that means he was taught proper manners. Malleus has even indicated before that his grandmother stressed the importance of observing etiquette, particularly around invitations. You don't just invite yourself to functions or insert yourself into others' lives if not extended said invites... and Malleus, for the most part, adheres to those rules. In various voice lines, he even frets over committing social faux pas, wondering if he has offended his peers with certain behaviors. For example, from his Masquerade Dress: "Flamme shoots me stern looks on occasion. Have I behaved improperly in some way...?"
Malleus is also not generally possessive when it comes to his items or territory. He wants to share cake with others; eating a whole one gave him heartburn and now whole cakes are his least favorite food. Additionally, he tends to welcome people to Diasomnia rather than chase them out or expel them. (After all, they so rarely get visitors in the first place.) Malleus will at least hear out the reasoning for seeking him out. As an example, Leona (someone who has had a rocky history with Malleus) goes to Diasomnia in his Ceremonial Robes vignettes to exchange robes after a laundry mix-up. This is a stark contrast to the highly territorial Leona, who attacks a magicless human in thd Botanical Garden and also allows his own students to wail on Yuu and co. for simply walking being in Savanaclaw. Leona joins in on this bullying too. I think it's pretty clear that Malleus handles guests with far more tact, grace, and patience than his fellow prince.
I want to point out that though Malleus is usually amicable with guests, there are exceptions. Ramshackle, as I mentioned earlier, is a place he enjoys a lot. He indicates in his Halloween Dress card that “If anyone dares to damage [this] dorm, I will be as a lóng and reduce them to cinders. I have become rather fond of that place, after all.” Indeed, he does act on this promise in Terror is Trending and comes close to striking down Magicam Monsters for disrespecting a place he holds so dear. Is this possessive though? Yes, it’s a place he loves—but it’s also a place where his friend Yuu lives.
There are many other examples of Malleus going to extreme lengths to protect the things he loves. He vows to destroy Rollo Flamme, who poses a threat to his people, the fae (who depend on magic as their way of life, and the sentient gargoyles, whom he has recently befriended. He unleashes his mighty magic to attack those who wound his pride. He stops time and kidnaps the entire student body all for the sake of including ghosts in a Halloween celebration. And, of course, he sends Sage’s Island to sleep in a desperate bid to stop losing everyone. The majority of these behaviors involve him lashing out at those who pose legitimate threats to things he cares about. It’s not as though be is acting for no discernible reason or because he is doesn’t want his loved ones being with people other than him. Does that make these actions right? No, absolutely not. But I would say they are definitely more protective than possessive.
Very rarely is Malleus actively preventing his peers from spending time away from him. Sure, he gets upset that he’s not invited to join them and sure, he wishes people would invite him too—but there’s a difference between longing and being mopey about this and acting so domineering he’s breathing down the necks of others to only be with him. He is not stopping people from being with their friends and family. He is not stopping people from using his things or entering his territory. Even when he makes everyone sleep, he grants them the space to craft their own dreams and doesn’t even make the dreams center around him and his own involvement on their lives. Oftentimes the dreams involve several other characters that are important to the individual dreamer and Malleus does not appear at all. (Again, this doesn’t mean using his UM was the best move to resolve his issues; I’m just saying his actions were not necessarily possessive.)
So, in conclusion, I stand by the thesis at I proposed at the start of this post: Malleus is largely protective, not possessive, despite what many fandom interpretations would have you believe.

(spoilers look away kids)
something that i thought was really poignant and kind of heartbreaking about Kit's character especially in regards to his own insecurities regarding acceptance by humans and his initial desire to become one was that he probably didn't *have* to be that desperate to get it!
like, look at how the other kids made his locker into a memorial after his death - even though Kit was totally focused on Jentry and being accepted by her, he clearly made connections with other kids too, enough that folks continue to remember and miss him. Also, looking at how quickly the other students just kind of accept that Jentry has fire powers and is the girl who burned down the town, I bet you that (depending on how it was revealed) him being a Painted Face demon would've been accepted too, eventually.
like at least after Jentry saved the town and even the most obsessed-with-the-demon-girl guys (cough cough principal wheeler cough) were moving on, most of the people at the school at least seem to just be like "alright, demons are a thing, so is magic, Jentry has mad fire powers and her weird cousin is actually a chinese vampire. Neat."
Idk, it really seems like if he had revealed his true form at this time to these people, it might not have been a disaster.
I can't blame him for not being able to see that though, it looks like this guy had some SERIOUS trauma about past reveals, although getting obsessive over jentry definitely was never going to work out, which he seems to have realized because he then went and gave the robes to Mr. Cheng - but man, if it had occurred to him that acceptance and genuine connection wasn't just jentry-or-bust that would have been something
ok we need to have a chat about Kit from Jentry Chau vs the Underworld
(as per usual long spoilers under the cut)
he is a great character, but you all are misunderstanding the point behind his reveal to Jentry as a painted skin
the show finally gives us the dignity to be accepting of a person for being different right out of the gate, like Jentry was surprised by Kit's true appearance, but not unaccepting
whereas other shows often like to give us the whole *you wouldn't like me because I'm different no I would I swear never mind you were right I don't like you anymore* Jentry Chau vs the Underworld gives Jentry a good reason for why she doesn't accept Kit
Jentry later explains herself very clearly to Kit and why she doesn't trust him, it's because he manipulated her, seduced her, tried to kill her, and did the one thing that everyone else does to her, the thing she hates most, he tried to use her to get what he wants
she can't trust that his feelings for her are real, and it's not just because he is a demon and his book entry says "can't feel emotion" or whatever, she has been given good reason to believe that the book is right and she shouldn't trust him, not because he was lying about being a demon, but because he tried to kill her at the orders of the man that she believed had murdered her parents, because he had planted a pearl on her that manipulated her desire to see her parents to lead her into a trap, because he had spied on her and pretended to also be into the things she likes just to get close enough to kill her, and his reasons for doing all of that were entirely selfish, he planned on trading her soul for a soul of his very own
Jentry eventually forgives Kit, but not because she has reconciled that he is a demon, she realizes that Kit is just like her, his manipulation wasn't his own plan, he is a pawn in someone else's game, like her he is being used by another party to get what they want, and like her he wants out
this prompts her to come up with a plan to get them both out of the game, if Jentry can transfer the powers that Flora and Cheng are fighting over from her to something else, then theoretically Flora would no longer need Jentry, and Cheng would no longer need Kit in order to get close to Jentry
she enlists Kit's help to achieve this objective, and it works (temporarily), freeing Jentry and Kit from the rivalry that they both wanted no part of
Kit then takes this opportunity to try and form a romantic relationship with Jentry, but she declines citing a need for "normalcy"
again, not because she doesn't accept him as a person, Jentry is doing everything she can to put her supernatural past behind her whether it's Cheng, the mogui, her gugu, her parents, her powers, Diyu, or ghosts, but she is content keeping friends around like Ed and Kit
and it's worth mentioning that Jentry noticed Kit's desire to be with her was entirely selfish and self serving, he wanted his own happiness no matter the cost, even if it meant stealing from Jentry, and his behavior around her was hardly rational, stalking her, smashing lockers, scaring her, he wasn't exactly trying to formulate a healthy relationship
she is later upset with Kit for breaking her trust once again, and stealing from her to achieve the same selfish goal as before
but Kit finds redemption in the end, not redemption for being a demon, redemption for being selfish, and he does this by sacrificing himself to save Jentry's life, something from which he had nothing to gain, and even admits what Jentry suspected, that his wanting to be with her was selfish, but he proved that he could be selfless and put others first
people are saying he got done dirty, but it was that sacrifice that made him not only a good person, but a good character that was capable of growing and evolving, and his absence from the rest of the show, suggesting that his death may have been permanent, made his sacrifice all the more meaningful
Jentry is hardly perfect, but she isn't the monster some have accused her of being
why wouldn't Jentry be accepting of a demon? Ed was a jiangshi, an undead demonic creature from Diyu that consumes qi much in the same way that the painted skin demon would, and he was one of her best friends
she saw the nü gui as a non-malicious friend to Ed, considered her gugu's ghosts to be helpful and nice, helped a dangerous little girl to return to the afterlife, didn't run off when she learned about Michael's powers, regarded niu tou and ma mian as non-evil forces just doing their job, considered Kit a friend after forgiving him, and helped Zhong Kui capture law breaking ghosts
she was constantly accepting of any super natural entity that wasn't a total dick, why would this be any different?
now I love Kit, and if there is a season 2, and I hope to god there is, I would love to see him return as well, but you gotta stop ragging on Jentry for just being rational, there are much better reasons why someone would be upset with her, but I just can't see the unaccepting angle

Playing boardgames and Stardew Valley are your and your husband's favorite pastimes. But, do you really have to take it so seriously? Even going as far as blackmailing your husband?
a/n: i've just been SOOO addicted with playing Catan and Stardew this holidays that i actually "craved" for some wholesome, crack Sukuna fic playing these!! also, if u don't know, Catan is a classic boardgame where u really need to strategize LOL (and i always take games so competitively serious) >.<
Pairing: Sukuna x Reader (female) Genre: fluff, Husband AU, Gamer AU, board game playing Word Count: 882 Warnings: cursing, laughing hard (please) All characters are of age.
“Oh my God, I needed that fucking ore! Come on, here’s 3 sheeps for 1 ore.”
Your husband then laughed at what you just said. You both have been playing Catan for the past 3 hours, with all 3 games owned by your husband. And now, you just need 1 point to win but instead he rolled a ‘7’ on the dice and stole your one and only ore resource – to upgrade your settlement into a city (which is worth 2 points, by the way). Thank God, you still have your 2 hay resources.
“No can do, babe.” Sukuna continued snickering at your misfortune. “This is a game of luck and I’m one lucky guy,” he continued and winked at you from across the table.
Groaning, you rolled the dice for your turn and landed on a ‘4.’ And you got a sheep resource, again. For the 5th time. “What the fuck am I gonna do with 5 sheeps?”
“Make ‘em steak,” Your husband said as he collected the dice to roll them, landing on a ‘7.’ Laughing at this, he said “Told ‘ya, the Catan gods are with me today.” He then moved the robber from your mountain territory to your wood territory – making you give up all your lumber resources, which amounts to a total of 3 by the way.
“Oh come on, why are you sabotaging me? I thought you love me?!” You’re overreacting at this point.
“Who else am I gonna sabotage? Me?! You just need luck today, babe,” Sukuna answered with a fucking boisterous laugh that makes your ears bleed.
“If I don’t fucking get a ‘9,’ I’ll be ignoring you for a whole week,” you said and rolled the dice. Sukuna laughed at you so hard with your dice ending up at the number you said. “Aww, see? The Catan gods love me so much that they wouldn’t allow you to ignore me.”
With a ‘9,’ you got a brick resource. Not the ore. Please, Catan gods – just two more ores.
Glaring at your smug husband, “You know what? After this round, we’re not playing this game anymore. Clearly, this isn’t for me. I’m just gonna play Stardew Valley and water all my seeds there – thinking about how that made me happier than ever playing this game.”
“Babe, it’s just a board game. Why are you taking this seriously?” Sukuna stared at you and yes, he’s still laughing. But, this time. Hard laughing.
“No. This is betrayal!” You said so seriously. How you said it without laughing made Sukuna fell down the chair and now literally rolling, laughing at you from the floor.
“As if you can play long enough at Stardew without bothering me,” he said in between his laughs. And yes, you two play Stardew Valley in co-op mode because it gets boring when you play it alone – so you always, always play it with Sukuna. He does the mining, fishing, and other heavy works there and you just water the seeds.
Crossing your arms and glaring down at him who is laughing like he just won the fucking lottery, you then said, “Keep laughing, ‘Kuna. When we’re done here, I’m selling all the gold ores you mined. Every. Single. One.”
That finally shut him up. He sat up so fast, you swore you heard his back crack, “You wouldn’t dare.”
“Try me.”
He narrowed his eyes. “That’s sabotage! Let me remind you that it’s our livelihood. You can’t sell that – they have to be gold bars before we sell that!”
“As if you didn’t sabotage me here. Stealing my ore and lumber?!” You leaned closer, poking his chest for emphasis. “Not just that. I’ll also marry Elliot just to spite you.”
Now Sukuna was actually frowning as he sat back up on his chair. “Elliott?! The poetry guy with the flowy, long hair?”
You grinned. “Yep. And I’ll make him recite me sonnets every morning.”
Sukuna grabbed the dice, clearly forgetting it’s his turn and now desperate to shift the power dynamic. “Roll. Right now. You’re not marrying that Shakespeare wannabe.”
You picked up the dice, shaking them dramatically before dropping them onto the board. And lo and behold—a ‘7.’
“YES!” You screamed, throwing your hands in the air as you finally get to move the robber and drop it on Sukuna’s mountain territory – robbing him off all his fucking ores. Sukuna groaned, throwing his head back.
“No! No, no, no!”
Looking at him, you stick your tongue out, “Oops, I think the Catan gods had a change of heart, babe.” You then upgraded one of your settlements into a city. “And now? I’m building my city. Suck on that!”
Sukuna looked at you like you’d just insulted his entire bloodline, “This isn’t over.”
“But, it is,” you leaned over the board and planted a kiss on his cheek. “You just lost to a girl with five sheeps and one brick.”
As Sukuna sat there, counting all your victory points and comparing it to his for ‘fairness of the game’, you added, “Also, Elliott and I are getting married this fall.”
That’s when Sukuna lunged to tackle you—and the game board—straight onto the couch, laughing so hard that you almost forgot why you’d been mad in the first place.
Almost.

Tbh Ferrus has very little of his own cotent. 99% of what you'll find is him and Fulgrim and that is to be expected because for one, Fulgrim is very popular, well fleshed character with his own dramatic story, while Ferrus has only baseline facts given about him. I also have heard that even in books there's very little focus on Ferrus, even if I see him as quite interesting character and yet... He feels as a mix of themes explored by other Primarchs, except as some sort of 'lovers to enemies' trope to Fulgrim. Man exists as side character in Fulgrim's story and that's all we get. Which is sad.
I mean if any books with at least some focus on Ferrus exist, please give me a title I will find a way to get ecopy of it or something.
But apart that, I read his wiki page, will probs reread again and as I do with all the Primarchs, I just... Create their personalities from the vibe they give to me (well quite often in comical manner but still) and Ferrus to me is, just like other primarchs, made to be epitome of a thing they are made in theme of, so in his case, metal.
I see Ferrus as survivalist, but at the same time quite de-sensitized to dangers he faces. He also seems to me as very literal and blunt person, though not in insulting, crude manner like Pert or Dorn. I also see him as someone who values creativity, but in more practical manner. He enjoys complex tasks, but also wants to find simple and straighforward solutions. Tho Ferrus' biggest weaknesses in my eyes are his emotions: he can easily get furious and that fury will blindly carry him without taking on the risks. Also he remembers wrongdoings and holds grudges very long.
I also feel his arms situation very well represents Ferrus as man he is: human inside, but iron outside and unlike Perturabo, Ferrus doesn't see that as perfection or anything to aspire to. If anything he wants to be human again, to get necrodium off his arms, but also recognises it's uses, so he accepts it for the time being.
Basically i see this man as someone you need patience and time to get to know due to crude exterior, but it's totally worth it. He's a sweetheart. Might insult you by accidently being too blunt, but still worth it.

.₊ ⟡ ݁ 🏆 2024 Top 10 🏆 ⟡ ݁₊ .
hello! I got tagged by a few people for various kinds of tier-list-posts for this year, so instead of making separate posts that will probably end up being repetitive, I decided to combine them all into one Top 10 list of my personal favorites in 2024. My watchlist was not very lengthy this year, partly because I was busy with work and partly because the quality of many shows was not to my liking. I started a bunch of things and dropped them shortly after, which also included more widely popular ones, for which I did not share the general public opinion. In the course of that, I have become more hesitant to share my thoughts online, as with every mildly critical POV came a number of anonymous people breathing down my neck. Which isn't new for me but by the end of the year I have gotten tired and was debating whether or not I should make this post but then I decided that this is my blog and idgaf about butthurt anons lol. I'm trying to carry this mindset into the new year.
So here is my Top 10 of BL/GLs that I have started and finished this year. A very special shoutout goes to The Heart Killers which owns my ass 100% and I totally would have added it but since we're only on ep6, I feel like it wouldn't be fair to include it in this list - also because I sort of consider it a category of its own lol.
I had no trouble picking this as my number one, simply because it's an outstanding production with an S-tier cast and a very powerful and well executed script. I've always loved Up but Poom took the cake for me in this, I was absolutely starstruck by him and his screen presence, he's a big surprise for me and has become one of my personal favorites this year in terms of acting. I could fill books with reasons why I love this show.
I had to include this even though it's not finished but I'm really blown away by it. The GLs I previously watched were okay but did not strike me quite as much as this one. I knew I would love Film and Namtan together from the moment they got paired as they're both insanely skilled and I was not disappointed. They understand the assignment 100% and so does Snap25 and it really shows. I'm obsessed.
Speaking of masterpieces, this is another one. It didn't get much attention sadly, mostly because TayNew did not deliver the dynamic the general BL population was hoping for. Their loss. This is an amazing production from start to finish, the 4 of them are the best possible casting choice for their characters, the found family trope is one of the best I've seen and especially TayNew delivered another gem with this one. I shall never doubt them again. This is how you do bromance. Certain other shows could never. send tweet.
Ah yes. No year goes by without the obligatory Mame guilty pleasure lol. What can I say. FortPeat as annoying southern scuba boy meets snobby whiny writer on a beach. How can I look away. I genuinely enjoyed this, it feels like the story was written for them, it's a perfect fit for them and their range I think plus I'm glad that Aya finally found a GL partner that matches her energy lol. I loved both couples and even though the plot did lack sometimes, you can count on MMY to serve S-tier chemistry no matter what. A+.
This is my personal hidden little gem, a small production with not a ton of attention, let alone good reviews but sometimes those are the best ones. The beginning was a bit slow but it quickly picked up. I decided to give it a watch mostly because I was curious about Charles' followup bl role and ended up getting very attached lol. So much softness and deep emotions and mutual healing that happened here and that I appreciated a lot. This was also my first Taiwanese BL in I think 3 years(?) I loved it.
I was very excited to watch this and see what Change 2561 came up with after Pit Babe and even though I'm not the biggest fan of cooking plots, I ended up enjoying this a lot! I've been a SailubPon and GarfieldBenz connoisseur since Pit Babe and it was so nice to see them in the spotlight in this. I saw a bunch of people drop it because they found Plawan annoying but I disagree lol. I had a very good time.
I initially tuned into this for Seng and Best, just to see what they're up to these days and it ended with me eating the whole thing up lol. The unapologetic approach to topics like sex education mixed with the sweet love stories that came with it is one of the things I appreciated + enjoyed a lot. I was a big fan of Peak and Thanwa and would definitely watch another show with Seng and Best as I really love their dynamic. Latte and Almond had a good start but fell a bit flat towards the end. Still a very deserving 7th place for me.
I was sooo excited for this and overall it did not disappoint, though I think it could have been better in some aspects. The comprehensive vibe was juvenile but not in a bad way. I anticipated gmmtv would choose a trope-y plot for their first GL to test the waters and it seems they succeeded. The main reason I put it as number 8 is the AylinLuna side story which I very strongly disliked for multiple reasons I won't get into here. But MilkLove did a fantastic job and this was a very nice debut for them. Thumbs up!
This might be the most unexpected gem for me this year. I started watching it because I was bored and nothing else was on and I was curious to see Dunk in his first solo gig. Surprisingly he did a big leap forward with his acting in this and White was by far my favorite character. Lune on the other hand was my least favorite which was another surprise as I previously loved Phuwin as Peem in We Are so I'm not sure why Lune was so unlikable. But anyway this was a very nice combination of different cute little stories, LuneStar were very trope-y but White saved a great deal of it by being the third wheel lol, plus the BL sideplot was pure sugar. I'm sad we won't see Ryu and Java together again and I resent them not giving us that well deserved WhiteIvy endgame but overall I enjoyed this a lot!
Never thought I would put a Siwaj production in my Top 10 but I'm tired of pretending I didn't secretly love this lmao. So much chaos but so much fun. It's a typical ensemble show, mostly aimed at a domestic audience with lots of slapstick and horseplay comedy, but I ended up being quite fond of all the couples. The main crystallization for me was that this is PondPhuwin's territory, this is the type of show they belong in imo. They excel at this kind of comedy and they seemed very careless and joyful in this, which I enjoyed and which made them a decent main couple. The QToey plot was a bit draggy and even though it's a big cast, 16 episodes were not necessary, which is why it gets the 10th place. But overall it still deserves to be in this list.
Thanks again to everyone who tagged me; in this and other things over the year, I appreciate you thinking of me!! 🥺🧡 I didn't manage to reply to every tag but know that I see them all and I try to do as many as possible! Also a big thank you and much love to all the lovely people I talked to this year, especially @lattexalmond, @mayalunas @bl-recs-and-reviews and @my-wandering-rabbit, I love and cherish each one of you! 🧡 Happy New Year to everyone who read this far, here's to a kind and successful 2025 with groundbreaking shows lol. I'm hopeful.

Thank you, @by-shire-reckoning, for your thoughts on my work. I want to be clear that I in no way aim to criticize Tolkien in this! He was dead for a few years before I was even born. He comes with the historical and religious baggage around sex and gender that you mention. I can't fault him for that anymore than I can fault myself for not meeting acceptable standards for representation and whatnot that will exist one hundred years hence. It's a good thing that we've raised our expectations for representation since Tolkien was actively working on "Silmarillion" material.
The reason I do this work is because of us, his readers and fans, and his influence on broader Western culture. We have Tolkien's books as they are, and they shape us and how we see ourselves in the world. That women have only 17% of the dialogue is huge in a fandom that is majority women and gender minorities, as Tolkien fanworks fandom is. What does this mean for us and how we read, understand, and enjoy this text? And how do we then respond to it with fanworks? (And also for the record, I don't think women or any other group of fans need to respond in a singular way to these facts. Many women are unbothered by the legendarium as written and that's totally fine! Others of us use it as a reason for shaping our own fanworks.)
And of course Tolkien's work is the foundation of the fantasy genre, which means that, intended or not, his work has become a prototype that has echoed through popular culture for decades with race, gender, disability, and sexuality only recently being addressed with more than tokenism (and even that remains controversial). Again, not Tolkien's fault, but if the house leans, you look first to the foundation.
For example, you mention Lúthien, who I think is an excellent example of the tensions we sometimes feel within this work, where what we "know" of the legendarium and what the text actually says/does are at odds. Lúthien is always—and rightfully so—held up as THE example of a strong woman character. Yet she is mentioned 137 times in The Silmarillion while Beren is mentioned 146. He speaks eleven times. She speaks four. Again, this is not to say that Tolkien, writing in the 1950s, should have done better. But I, as a woman reader, have been unable to discuss gender and Tolkien without someone pointing at her and saying "but Lúthien" ... yet she still doesn't get the airtime or the opportunities to speak that her inferior male companion does. (Actually, I find it highly relatable as a woman who has done most of the work and shared the credit throughout my life in the majority of mixed-gender collaborative endeavors.) And a character like Lúthien becomes a prototype for the strong woman in fantasy: beautiful, magical, and silent.
I expect the outcome of these data will surprise no one. Women speak less, and women speak less. This isn't a typo: It means that they have fewer instances of dialogue in The Silmarillion by a substantial margin, and when they do speak, they speak nine fewer words than men, on average.
Instances of women speaking is much nearer to speakers of unknown gender than to men speaking. (And before we get excited and think that the "unknown gender" speakers are rejecting the gender binary, this category represents mostly dialogue attributed to a group, plus two unnamed individuals who are given dialogue and one sword.)
This matters because dialogue signifies several important things in The Silmarillion. First, in a pseudohistorical text like The Silmarillion, direct quotes mean that someone said something important enough to preserve in the historical record. Men, based on the data, are saying far more important things than women, at least in the various narrators' estimation. Next, dialogue is often a proxy to action: Characters debate, give directives, and make speeches. Dialogue also humanizes, and even though Tolkien rejects many modern literary techniques in The Silmarillion, he does use dialogue as a characterization technique. As I will show in future analyses, some characters are distinguishable based on how they speak.
Of course, the reduced dialogue of women in The Silmarllion is a direct effect of there being significantly fewer women than men: Women constitute only 19% of the named characters in The Silmarillion. Even given this, however, women speak less than we would expect.
When we look at character groups, there are notable differences, namely that women of the Ainur speak more than Mortal Human and Elven women do. (Only four Elven women and five Mortal Human women speak in The Silmarillion! Excuse me while I scream!) This was the thesis of the long-ago Inequality Prototype that spurred this data collection endeavor: The Valar, being prototypical, show an equal penchant for entering into the world based on gender: It is a 50/50 split. So we can't say that women have less desire to influence the world than men in the legendarium. When we see less action and fewer instances of dialogue among women, then, we have to ask why.
Complicating the data for the Ainur (overall, not just this set) is the fact that a big chunk of their dialogue occurs in the "Of Aulë and Yavanna" chapter that Christopher Tolkien wrote. I don't want to treat these data differently until I have the opportunity to collect more data on where dialogue outside this chapter comes from; for all I know, Christopher wrote most of it! (Actually, I know he didn't, but this chapter does illustrate how his additions can skew data for a particular group, in this case the Ainur.)
Another future area of inquiry will be the type or purpose of the dialogue and whether/how this varies based on gender. Characters speak for many reasons. Do women speak for different purposes than men?
If these data illustrate anything to me, it is the importance of fanworks in amplifying the voices of women characters who we know existed and know said and did things that mattered. We are being given a historical record much like our own Modern-earth historical record: biased toward the contributions of some over others. Only we can fix that.

ao3 Wrapped 2024 - twilightarc
Instead of an ask game I decided to just answer the questions on the sourced post that I can answer for my own benefit and fun.
How many words have you written this year? Ao3 Published: 310,834
How many works did you publish this year? 7 Complete / 13 Total
What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Always 'mainfic' i.e. This River Runs Beyond Heaven and Earth [江流天地外] I put so much work into it for fanfic. Why? I got mental health issues, I guess.
What work of yours has the most hits? I Long For You (相思) Hits: 5,311
What work of yours got more feedback than you expected? Damn your love, damn your lies. Everyone is VERY VOCAL (affectionate) about Jiang Cheng being in a loveless marriage and needing a divorce pronto. 🥰
Favorite title you used Again, mainfic's title taken from a poem and has a wealth of description to it that really sets the tone for the entire story. Never gonna top that.
If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most? "damn your love, damn your lies" is the only song title and it's from Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Pairing you wrote the most for this year? CHENGXIAN to no one's surprise...
Favorite pairing you wrote for this year? Obviously this is also ChengXian but only because I haven't actually got to Jiang Cheng/Hu Touxiang(OC) this year.
What work was the quickest to write? To Endeavor is to Endure (4,331 words) This was a prompt fill, I did it in like two days ish.
What work took you the longest to write? Of the complete works: The BigBang2024 entry I ended up doing as a series with my co-author Specs. It took 6 months to write. YM3 Gen fic with MSY worldbuilding 🤲 Reprieve and a New Start and The Turning Point

The parallels between Joel and pearl are actually like really interesting sometimes. Like to see how similar but different the two of them are can be really fun to look through. It’s also fun to see how much they can be opposites, like, take dl!pearl and 3l!joel for example. Joel ended up mostly alone because he tried playing on both sides of the field, which didn’t do him much good. He had been mostly lonely throughout the series with some tenuous alliances, but he ended up dying alone surrounded by dogs anyway. In double life, pearl’s loneliness wasn’t a choice that she made. She had been abandoned in the first episode for running off with a person that wasn’t her soulmate, and that person had also left her out of spite. She also was mostly alone and seen as “crazy” for most pf the series, too having a lot of tenuous alliances that in the end didn’t do her much good at all. Also love how they both had pet dogs they were horrible attached to and dealt very differently with their deaths. Can you tell I love lone wolf parallels
Lone wolf parallels so true.... Joel and Pearl make me feel so ill man. And they fit so neatly together in the Mounders, which makes almost too much sense. I'll leave my Mounder talk for another anon though but even moreso than the lone wolf thing, I think Pearl and Joel serve as interesting parallels because of the others' views on them
Pearl regarded as crazy in DL, Joel regarded as rabid for pretty much every season... Pearl was doing so well in SL, but then she's teamed up again with Scott and Cleo in WL who treat her like a ticking time bomb, constantly referring back to Double Life as if she's an untameable animal needing to be contained, undoing whatever progress she made in SL. They perpetuate the sentiment of her being pathetic and she feels powerless upon all her failures to achieve any of her goals and prove herself, basically giving up in the end (the way she became deflated after Gem's death and knowingly refused to eat, eventually dying)
Joel is regarded as a menace by default, though of his own doing, and not a particularly feared one. Often thought to be more crazy than intimidating or strong, thus regarded with less competence than he would like. It's not like he aims to make himself look insane, when he gives off that impression, it's generally because of distress which I think he's more susceptible to than most others. He gets flustered easily when taunted or when he fails at something, especially an attack. Sorry for the dog analogy (hey, close enough to wolf, right) but he feels like a dog raised to be one of those illegal pit fighting dogs, and he keeps it up to make himself strong and feared in order to get by in this environment. In the end he has occasional bouts of success but most often doesn't do that well. The image constructed of him is less than ideal, and the main contributor to that image aside from him is Scott, who Joel has a hard time landing successful attacks on, who mocks him, who kills him repeatedly, who isn't intimidated by him one way or another as he paints the image of a rabid dog to everyone else. And the one time Joel does so well he wins is the time he makes a conscious effort to tame himself (and he absolutely deserves a win but even just from a character standpoint, it feels hollow in a poetic way because of this)
Two wolves seen as rabid and often incompetent, but where one could take some (although not total) control, finally yielding positive results if even bittersweet ones at best, the other is forced back into their ostracized self, but where there was once fear of someone gone mad, there's pity and mockery now

OKAY THE AU GUIDE IS FINALLY DONE. it's very long so it's going under read more. there will probably be edits added at some point bc things keep changing
AU INFO
This version combines the characters of the original Rebornica AU, the canon FNAF lore, and a lot of bullshit I made up because I like having fun. The canon FNAF lore is mostly in place, though some of it is delayed until later in the timeline.
The AU takes place in the modern day instead of the 1980s-2000s. The new pizzeria is in the same location as the FNAF 1 location, but it’s decades later and there’s new animatronics: The Rockstar animatronics + Rockstar Mangle, the Security Puppet, Balloon Boy and JJ. Corporate put all of the budget into them so that they’d have experimental AI personalities and be able to react and respond to things independently + in character (like the animatronics in Security Breach). During the day, they act like they’re alive, though at night the ghosts of the dead children interfere with their programming and use them as vessels to go after the guards. They also contain reused parts of the animatronics before them, and so they have some vague residual memories of their past iterations, though they feel more like dreams.
The ghosts of the missing children are not fully conscious and are missing a lot of their memories, including who killed them. They know it was an adult, and vaguely suspect it was a security guard, but really they would attack any adult if they were there at night. They tend to react very negatively to the color purple, and on Vincent’s night shifts will go after him harder than the others, though they aren’t conscious of why. Since they’re mainly running on instinct and emotion, they can’t put the pieces together of what happened to them.
William and Vincent are not the same person, and neither are Mike Schmidt and Michael Afton. Additionally, Jeremy, Fritz and Phone Guy exist in the present day instead of the 80s-90s.
The guards also have different ages compared to the og AU, and are all within a 10 year age span.
The couples that are canon are Mike/Doll and Chris/Vixen, also Vincent and Mahogany are exes. I know ppl want that purplephone yaoi but I think the original dynamic they have where Vincent has a weird sexual crush on Scott and Scott prays that he dies every night before bed is too compelling to give up. Also I want that purple guy but we aren’t getting into that here
There’s 3 humanoid species in this au: Humans (Mike, Chris, Fritz, Doll, Boss, Mahogany), Objectheads (Scott), and Huemans (GET IT GET IT GET IT. anyways Vincent, Vincent’s parents, William Afton, Michael Afton). As for Jeremy, umm I’m not totally sure what his deal is but he is a human, just like a strange subsection of human. Listen there’s not a lot of logic going on I’m just working with the cards I’ve been dealt
LORE GUIDE
All of the FNAF lore is just about the same until William Afton’s death. After the FNAF 2 restaurant, instead of dismantling the animatronics and being trapped inside of Springtrap, William Afton decided to lay low for a while. During this time period, his younger half brother and his wife were killed (who could’ve done that?), and as the closest living relative, William ended up reluctantly adopting Vincent, their 8 year old son. It turns out Vincent has the same murderous tendencies, and so William takes him under his wing, teaching him both about murder and the animatronics.
William took him to the 2000s iteration of the original Freddy’s location a lot. There, Vincent met Mahogany, who was there a lot since her dad owned it, and they became friends. On one occasion, Vincent met Mike and tricked him into going up to Foxy, which led to Mike being bitten, which damagedmhis frontal lobe. The Schmidts and Fazbear Entertainment settled out of court, and all of the money Mike’s family won went to his medical bills.
William and Vincent lived well together as a weird freaky family unit for years until William eventually decided to finally go and dismantle the animatronics. After destroying them, he was cornered by the spirits and killed inside of Springtrap in the safe room. The spirits were freed and passed on, and the room was boarded up without anyone finding William’s body.
With his uncle suddenly missing, Vincent had to drop out of school and get his GED in order to become independent and avoid the foster system. Him and Mahogany started dating, and she accidentally got pregnant. Vincent didn’t want the baby because he was 18 and also already hated kids, but Mahogany decided to keep the baby, so they ended up breaking up and settled into a friends with benefits situation instead while Vincent was also an absent father to Violet, their daughter.
After a few years of goofing off and living off his inheritance, Vincent finally started seriously looking for his uncle and got a job with Mahogany’s help at Freddy’s as a security guard. A lot of sneaking around later, and he found Springtrap in the boarded off safe room. Him and his uncle were finally reunited, but William was very pissy about the whole “I’ve been dead inside this suit for years and you never found me” situation and Vincent’s an asshole so he started teasing him about it. Ultimately, Vincent realized that his uncle was a lost cause and now it was his turn to continue his legacy, so he ditched William there to go kill people.
Soon after, Scott got hired to replace the other security guard, and so him and Vincent alternated between day and night shifts week by week. They didn’t see each other super often because of this, but when they did, they got along well. That was until Vincent developed a crazy psychosexual crush on Scott and scared the shit out of him to the point that Scott started avoiding him.
Mike at that point had just barely managed to graduate high school. His brain damage caused him a lot of issues that had made school difficult, and as Mike started trying to find and keep a job, he found that those same issues were affecting that too. After meeting Doll again and successfully getting them to go out with him, Mike pushed himself harder to retain a job so that he would be able to treat them well. Still, he struggled to find steady work due to his lack of experience and intolerance to the poor working conditions he often found himself in.
Mahogany brought Violet to Freddy’s frequently and would sometimes leave her there if she had something important to do since she figured it was safe. Vincent, being a shit dad, avoided her like the plague. It was very awkward when they interacted, especially since he was somehow dodging child support for years at that point. By the time she was 8 and he was 26, Vincent had already become a full fledged serial killer, but he still hadn’t fulfilled his duty to continue his uncle’s legacy and perform a copycat killing. Eventually, he decided to kill two birds with one stone. He tricked Violet into bringing her friends into the Parts and Services room, where he then drugged them and put them into the suits, which killed them when activated. Eventually Vincent did remove the bodies from the animatronics since he knew that they would inevitably be found if he kept them there, but the gruesome deaths imprinted the children’s ghosts to the respective animatronics they died in. The bodies were never found and Vincent was never caught, but the restaurant did shut down for a while due to the missing kids. Mahogany also stopped talking to Vincent after seeing how apathetic he seemed to be about Violet’s death, though she did not suspect him.
After the press coverage of the missing children settled down, Boss reopened the pizzeria with significantly more security and hired Mike, Jeremy and Fritz. Chris was also hired at the reopening since the other janitor quit. The hope was that the added security would bring customers back, and while many did return, some were lost to the competing Chuck E Cheese down the road.
Now the five guards change shifts on a weekly basis, with four working various areas of the pizzeria during the day shift and one working the night shift.
The ghosts of the children are confused, but also have realized how to override the animatronics’ AI and use them as vessels. They tend to go dormant during the day to preserve energy, though at night they go after whoever is on duty. The animatronics themselves do not remember what they do when possessed and are very confused why the guards don’t like them/are scared of them.
MIKE SCHMIDT
Mike is 26, uses he/him, and is a cis man + pansexual
He stays at Freddy’s because it’s the best job he can get and hold. His partner, Doll, is the main breadwinner, and while Mike doesn’t mind that, he does want to contribute as much as he can financially.
Typically, Mike appears to be very irritable and unfriendly. However, while he does have a temper, he is actually pretty outgoing and gets along well with a lot of his coworkers, even those that piss him off (Scott and Vincent). Mike also enjoys puns and pranks, much to his coworkers’ dismay.
In his free time, Mike enjoys collecting Pokemon and baseball cards. He also goes to the gym on his days off. Mike wishes he had more free time so he could volunteer at an animal rescue, but right now he’s got a lot going on.
As a child, Mike was bitten by the older Foxy animatronic and sustained damage to his frontal lobe that resulted in him struggling with his emotional regulation, impulsivity and short attention span. Because of this, Mike did very poorly in school and struggled to keep a job before working at Freddy’s. His brain suppressed the memory of the attack and he doesn’t know that he was bitten at the same place he works, nor that Vincent was the reason it happened, but his hatred of Foxy stems from the subconscious memory of the bite.
Mike loves Jeremy, even if he isn’t the most outwardly affectionate with him. He’s one of the reasons Mike stayed at the job, since he was so worried about Jeremy’s safety. Over time, they’ve grown very close, and Mike sees him as a younger brother. While not as close, Mike is also very good friends with Chris, and feels a certain kind of everyman kinship with him, like they can sit around and talk about how weird and ridiculous everything is together. His relationship with Vincent is a bit more complicated, he’s like his shitty annoying freaky friend that he hates but also likes hanging out with. He’s the one that Mike goes to the bar with even though Vincent doesn’t even drink and sometimes gets him to do stupid shit. Him and Fritz are chill, although he has trouble following what he’s talking about sometimes and often has to stop him from actively putting himself in danger with the animatronics. To him, Fritz is definitely the most normal of all of the other guards, though. Scott pisses him off because he tells him about people dying in the restaurant all the time. Also, Mike’s first week was night shift and when he heard the fourth night’s tape he thought Scott died, and when he saw Scott the next week on day shift and found out he just had to get a couple stitches he totally freaked out on him. As time has gone on and he’s gotten to know Scott more, he’s tried to be more patient with him.
Mike is engaged to Doll and is absolutely head over heels with them. The two went to high school together but never really talked. They officially started talking at the library Doll used to work at, and he began going and pretending to read just so he could talk to them. Eventually, he worked up the nerve to ask them out, and they happily agreed. For a while, Mike struggled with insecurities in their relationship, mainly that he saw himself as not good enough or smart enough for Doll. Impulsively, he broke up with them, but quickly realized he made a mistake and fixed things. Five years later, they’re finally engaged and live together in Doll’s late grandmother’s house. Over time, Mike’s insecurities have dwindled, though his main concern now is that something may happen to him on the night shift. The two would like to have a baby once they’re married, but Mike wants to make sure he’ll be there for his family and not in a suit. For now, they’re considering a dog.
Originally, Mike HATED working at Freddy’s. However, as he’s gotten to know his coworkers and learned how to handle the night shift, he’s slowly grown to tolerate it. The animatronics still piss him off and he doesn’t like having to drag kids off of the stage, but it pays better than other jobs he’s had and at least his coworkers are kind of fun.
Mike has accidentally fallen face first into the secrets of the pizzeria. When he first got hired, he thought it was just a job he’d have to deal with for the paycheck. Now he goes to bed thinking about how there’s definitely ghosts and also the animatronics might be gaining sentience. However, Mike is not the most articulate guy, and so whenever he tries to tell anyone about his theories, he just sounds really nuts. Chris is his go to guy for crazy talk since he’s the most level headed of everyone at Freddy’s and will sit through his often nonsensical rants.
He is a pissy asshole at work but then he goes home and sees Doll and goes puppy mode. That man can act as macho as he wants but he is very soft for Doll
Mike doesn’t have a favorite animatronic (he hates them all), and his least favorite is Rockstar Foxy.
JEREMY FITZGERALD
Jeremy is 20, uses he/him, and is a cis man + aroace
Despite being terrified of his job, Jeremy stays on because he needs the money to afford rent and his online asynchronous college courses.
Jeremy’s already anxious demeanor is amplified at Fazbear’s, where the screaming children and murderous animatronics do nothing to soothe his nerves. He tends to be shy when first meeting people and takes time to open up to others, though when he does, Jeremy is a very kind and considerate friend.
His schedule is usually hectic between his job and his classes, but in between, he loves watching anime, collecting manga and figurines, doing arts and crafts, and occasionally streaming himself playing games. He really loves Sailor Moon, Vocaloid, and Sanrio.
When Jeremy first met Mike, he was scared of him, but as he got to know Mike and understand him better, he came to see him as an older brother/protector. Since Fritz and Chris are the closest to his age, Jeremy tends to hang out with them a lot. He relies on Scott for help a lot of the time and appreciates his assistance, but also is kind of intimidated by him since he’s so tall and has seniority. As for Vincent, he’s scared of him, but occasionally they can find common ground.
Jeremy isn’t originally from the area, but moved from another state to get away from his father. Originally, he struggled to make rent and feed himself, but after working at Freddy’s and meeting Fritz, the two moved into a new apartment together. Now Jeremy can make rent and has enough left over to take online college classes. Jeremy appreciates that Fritz will watch his shows with him, and in return he does his best to help with Fritz’s furby customizations.
Despite being scared of the other animatronics, Jeremy absolutely adores the Security Puppet. He thinks it’s absolutely adorable and he spends a lot of his day watching it. Jeremy has a soft spot for clowns and porcelain dolls, so the Puppet’s design is absolutely perfect to him.
He finds a lot of comfort in “girly” things since his experiences with masculinity growing up were very negative. When in new environments or when meeting new people, he tends to be a little shy about this aspect of himself. Thankfully the pizzeria’s environment is one where he feels safe to openly talk about his interests. Jeremy also tends to be very nervous around hypermasculine men, though his friendship with Mike has helped him work on managing those anxieties.
It’s not to the same extreme as Vincent’s love of toast, but Jeremy does really like lemons and lemon flavored things.
Jeremy’s favorite animatronic is the Security Puppet, and his least favorite is Rockstar Chica.
FRITZ SMITH
Fritz is 22, uses he/him, and is a trans man + aroace
Out of all of the guards, Fritz is the most enthusiastic about his job. He loves the animatronics, even if they try to kill him all the time. He rationalizes it as their security programming, and how can he be mad at them for that?
Fritz is a friendly guy, though he does have some trouble navigating conversations without relying on his interests for discussion topics. He finds that the animatronics are easier to talk to since he doesn’t have to worry about the same social cues and norms as he does with real people. Typically, he tends to get caught up in the fun atmosphere of the pizzeria, and his love of the characters and arcade games can often distract him from his actual job as a security guard.
Luckily for Fritz, his special interest in robotics— especially the Fazbear Entertainment animatronics— is a part of his job. He does mainly collect and study Fazbear related things, but he isn’t fully loyal to the brand, and does also enjoy Chuck E Cheese, though he’d never tell his coworkers that. He also enjoys video games and collecting furbies.
Fritz mainly hangs out with Jeremy and Chris since he has the most in common with them. Him and Vincent both know a lot about the Fazbear Entertainment franchise and its history, but Vincent’s tendency to refute Fritz’s statements with uncited sources irks him. Fritz appreciates Mike’s concern for his safety, though he wishes he would trust him more with the animatronics. As for Scott, he thinks he’s a cool guy, even though Scott keeps telling him to get back to work when he’s stationed in the arcade.
After working at Freddy’s and meeting Jeremy, Fritz finally was able to move out of his parents’ house. Growing up with 5 sisters, living with Jeremy is a very nice change for him. Fritz usually cooks for both of them, and in return Jeremy drives him everywhere (Fritz can’t drive). On Jeremy’s night shift week, Fritz tends to sleep on the couch so he can make sure Jeremy gets home.
Fritz’s favorite animatronic is Rockstar Chica (she’s always been his favorite character), and his least favorites are Balloon Boy and JJ.
SCOTT
Scott is 30, uses he/him, and is a cis man + heteroromantic demisexual
He’s in the books as a security guard, but in reality he’s also had a management position thrust onto him since Boss can't be bothered to actually run his pizzeria and he refuses to pay a manager. He stays at Freddy’s because he’s been there for years at this point and he’s just kind of used to the terrible conditions.
Like the phone calls in the first two games, Scott comes off as awkward and a bit too nonchalant about the terrible and often morbid circumstances of the job. In fact, he has a strange fascination with Freddy Fazbear’s violent history, which often unnerves his coworkers. However, Scott does try to be friendly, even if he isn’t the most charismatic, and does his best to help his coworkers as much as he can.
Scott is politely and respectfully fighting gay allegations left and right. He likes cashmere sweaters and infinity scarves, he goes to a cooking class with a bunch of single moms once a week, he has a bonsai tree that he shapes, he drinks iced lattes and he watches The Real Housewives of New Jersey. However, to everyone’s surprise (Mike and Vincent especially), Scott is actually on the market for a girlfriend, and even goes on dates sometimes. Of course, Mike and Vincent wear disguises and spy on him in the restaurant, because what else would they do? NOT see what Scott is like on a date with a woman?
Scott’s an objecthead, so he’s biomechanical. His head is a functioning phone and works on the same pulse system as a regular rotary phone (reference below), it’s just also got some blood and nerves and brain in there. Think of the plastic exterior of the phone as like an external skull— if you touched it, it’d feel to him like if someone touched your tooth or something. There’s feeling, but it’s kind of dull. He talks out of the phone, but I like the idea that when he eats he unscrews the speaker part of the phone and that’s where the food goes. Let Scott be freaky 2025!!!
Vincent is Scott’s weird frenemy who he has been rejecting the advances of for years. They’ve been working together the longest, and are both Fazbear veterans, which has naturally made them gravitate to one another even if they don’t usually get along. Scott wants to be Mike’s friend, but finds that he’s always saying the wrong things to him without meaning to. Seeing as Jeremy and Fritz are significantly younger than him, Scott does feel the need to coddle them, even when they may not necessarily need it. It’s not that he thinks they’re incapable of doing it on their own so much as he projects his own anxieties onto them and as a result feels responsible for their safety and peace of mind.
Scott is fairly neutral about the animatronics. He doesn’t really resent them for trying to stuff him into a suit since he thinks it’s just their endoskeleton recognition malfunctioning, and while he is interested in their murderous tendencies, he certainly doesn’t like that they do that. He’s fine with interacting with them during the day shift, though.
Scott’s favorite animatronic is Rockstar Foxy, and his least favorite is the Security Puppet (he thinks it’s freaky looking).
VINCENT BISHOP
Vincent is 28, uses he/him, and is a genderqueer man, arospec + identifies as somewhere between gay and bi so he uses both labels
He’s worked at Freddy’s the longest at a whopping 7 years (since he was 21), so he knows the place like the back of his hand. Originally, he took the job in an effort to find his uncle after his disappearance, but after finding him in the sealed off back room, he decided to continue his uncle’s work at the new restaurant. He really hates the children, the noise and the crowds, but he can’t imagine working anywhere else.
It can often be difficult to understand Vincent due to how unpredictable he is. His moods change like the seasons, usually based on who he’s working with and how busy the restaurant is. Some days he is clingy, obnoxious and flirty, while other days he is standoffish and silent. What does stay consistent, though, is the aura of secrecy that surrounds him.
No one seems to know what Vincent’s hobbies are, and for good reason. After all, he does his best to keep his stalking, murdering and disemboweling under wraps. He does have some normal interests, though, and enjoys reading, journaling, and playing the piano. He also has an extensive collection of knives and vintage Fazbear merchandise.
Like Scott, Vincent isn’t a human, he’s a HUEman :D His all white eyes and teeth are visible in the dark, and he can see well in darkness. He’s also extremely flexible, even for what he is, and can turn his head 270 degrees like an owl. Freaky man yayayayayayay
Vincent tends to have very intense and destructive relationships with other people which in part is due to his tendency to see others as toys rather than people. Mike is the only person he considers a friend, even though he doesn’t regret tricking him into getting bit at all. He’s the closest thing Vincent has ever had to a normal relationship, and is the only person Vincent will hang out with voluntarily outside of work. Scott is a bit more complicated. They started as casual friends when Scott first got hired, but then Vincent developed a weird creepy interest in Scott that caused a huge rift between them. The intensity and creepiness of it has waned a bit over the years, but Vincent still makes it known that he is dtf. Him and Mahogany have a long history of dating, breaking up, being friends with benefits, and finally avoiding each other after Violet’s death, though Vincent does still try to hit on her sometimes to no avail. Jeremy and Fritz don’t really matter at all to him, but he does find them amusing to tease.
Overall, Vincent is not inclined to form connections with others. It’s much easier for him to study people from the sidelines— or sometimes the bushes— than to go through all of the work of trying to make them like him. Outside of work, he doesn’t talk to anyone (besides Mike) unless it’s part of some plan to kill them.
The only exception is Vincent’s uncle, who was the only person he ever really cared about. Since William was also a killer, Vincent developed a genuine love for his uncle and felt for the first and only time that he could be open with him. His best memories are of his childhood with his uncle, about learning from him and going to Freddy Fazbears together. However, William’s miserable state in Springtrap has made their relationship warp, and now Vincent sees him just as another toy.
Vincent doesn’t do anything that might make him inebriated (drinking, drug use) because he’s paranoid he’ll let something slip and get caught. When he goes to bars with Mike, he usually just drinks water.
Yes, he loves toast. Autistic W
Vincent’s favorite animatronic is Golden Freddy (he’s hidden him away in storage), and his least favorite is the Security Puppet (makes his murder plans harder).
CHRIS
Chris is 21, uses he/him, and is a trans man + gynosexual
Freddy’s isn’t his ideal job (he’d like to become a tattoo artist), but it pays for his student loans from art school. Still, he tries to see the bright side of the situation, and does his best to stay positive.
Overall, Chris is a chill guy, and is definitely the most normal one in that damn pizzeria. He’s not apathetic to the crazy shit going on, but he also doesn’t take it all that seriously. Sure, there may be killer animatronics and ghosts, but when he clocks out none of that is coming home with him. Of course, when Mike shows up on his doorstep with some batshit theory about the animatronics, he’s totally going to listen.
Chris enjoys drawing (usually either tattoo designs or comics), doing street art and skateboarding in his free time. He also listens to a lot of Weezer.
Mike is his work bestie, and Chris thinks he’s super amusing to hang out with. He also hangs out with Jeremy and Fritz a lot though since they’re around his age and chill enough. Chris doesn’t really interact much with Scott or Vincent, but from what Mike tells him they’re total weirdos.
Chris has a girlfriend named Vixen, but they don’t live together. He lives in a shitty apartment by himself.
Part of his job as janitor entails cleaning off Rockstar Mangle since part of her gimmick is that kids can draw on her with erasable markers. Sometimes it can be a pain, but Chris has also developed a love for Mangle as a result of the time they’ve spent together.
Chris’ favorite animatronic is Rockstar Mangle, and his least favorites are Balloon Boy and JJ.
DOLL SCHMIDT
Doll is 27, uses they/them, and is nonbinary + androsexual.
They work as an archivist at a museum.
They’ve encouraged Mike to quit his job in the past since he hated it and it was dangerous, but they eventually stopped pressing him when Mike stopped actively despising his job.
Doll has ankylosing spondylitis, which they use a walker for.
They went to Freddy’s a few times when they were younger for other people’s birthday parties, but haven't been there in 15 years or so. They’ve met all of Mike’s friends from work, though, and are always happy to have them come over to the house.
Doll thinks Mike is sooooooo cute <3 They love spoiling their trophy husband and taking care of him. Doll wears the pants in that relationship for sure
BOSS
Boss is 59, uses he/him, and is a cis man + straight.
He runs a few different businesses, but isn’t very hands on with any of them. They’re more investments than they are passion projects for him. When he bought the original Freddy’s location (it’s a chain, he doesn’t own Fazbear Entertainment), he figured it was cheap enough and had enough appeal as the og that it would be a smart business move.
Boss’ wife died when Mahogany was a preteen, so he had to step up and raise her by himself. He’s very much a girldad, even at 59, and spoils Mahogany to no end.
Boss’ name is Byron, but he just tells everyone to call him “Boss” since his name feels too personal.
He is very cheap and does not want to put more money into Freddy’s than he has to.
Boss adored Violet and did everything he could to help Mahogany with her. He was happy that Freddy’s could be a part of her childhood like it was Mahogany’s. After Violet’s disappearance, though, he felt immense guilt and shut the restaurant down to mourn and aid the investigation. He originally intended to sell it, but decided to keep the business as a way to remember his granddaughter.
MAHOGANY
Mahogany is 28, uses she/her, and is a cis woman + bisexual
She is unemployed, but helps her father out with his businesses where she can. Specifically, she is very charismatic, and is great at meeting with investors.
Mahogany is Boss’ daughter and lives with him.
In her youth, Mahogany was very outspoken and playful, though after having Violet she did mature a bit. Being a single mother was hard for her, especially at 18, but she did her best and loved Violet enough that Vincent’s absence was not felt. After Violet went “missing”, Mahogany turned very bitter and distant. She hates having to go to the pizzeria and despises Vincent for not caring about or helping with Violet’s disappearance.
She struggles with the loneliness of having lost both her daughter and, in a weird way, Vincent. Of course, Mahogany is beautiful, and has had plenty of lovers, but she wants to find someone who will treat her right and take care of her. Scott is definitely a person of interest for her, but his obliviousness to her passes at him frustrates her.
VIOLET
Violet died when she was 8 in 2022.
Violet was very outgoing and made friends easily with the other kids at Freddy’s. She also tended to be very hyper and rowdy, and would often have to be dragged away from the animatronics by Scott or Vincent.
She was very close with her mother and grandfather, and was happy with their family dynamic. Violet knew that Vincent was her dad, but she didn’t feel any kind of connection to him and often gave him a hard time whenever he tried to do his job as a guard.
Her favorite animatronic was Foxy. He is also the animatronic that she was put into and that she now possesses.
WILLIAM AFTON
William died when he was 65 in 2012, uses he/him, and is a cis man + bisexual
His parents divorced and his father remarried, eventually having Jay (Vincent’s father). They moved to America from Britain when William was a teenager.
He was always sort of an oddball, but in a charming way. Behind closed doors, of course, he was much more sinister and hateful, but he was very skilled at hiding that side of himself.
William did initially care about all three of his children, though CCs death made him despise Michael. William and his wife divorced, and Michael lived with his mother while Elizabeth went between houses until her death.
After the murders, William did leave Fazbears as an owner. Still, he felt compelled to go back, and worked undercover as Dave for a bit to kill more. He was at one point looked into by police, but they had no evidence that would stick and let him go. Realizing how close he’d gotten, William decided to lay low and leave Freddy’s.
When the authorities reached out to William about taking in Vincent, he was initially very hesitant. When he did, though, he realized Vincent had the same murderous tendencies he himself had, and decided to take his nephew under his wing. William enjoyed Vincent since he saw a lot of himself in him, and treated him like the son he never got to raise. Vincent also gave him the opportunity to visit Freddy’s again, which had never stopped beckoning to him.
Eventually, William’s obsession with Freddy’s became too much, and he decided to sneak in and destroy the animatronics to rid himself of them. He succeeded, but in doing so released the spirits of the murdered children. They chased him into the safe room where the Spring Bonnie suit was being stored, and when he hid inside of it… ruh roh!
William’s body was never found, but the remnant (i dont understand that shit but its the only thing that could possibly keep his gay ass from decomposing in that suit so its here i guess) kept his body intact inside of Springtrap. By the time Vincent found him years later, his mind had deteriorated so much from the pain that he lashed out at his nephew. When Vincent turned on him and decided to mock him instead of helping him, William began to despise Vincent the same way he despised Michael.
He’s still in the boarded off safe room and Vincent is the only one who knows he’s there. He could theoretically move inside the suit, but he thinks it is futile since he is trapped in there and it would be even more painful. If he really tries, he can manifest as a ghost and leave the room, but it’s very draining and he cannot do it for very long.
MICHAEL AFTON
Michael is 55, uses he/him, and is a cis man + unlabeled
He is semi-undead and is stuck physically in his early 20s from when he was scooped. He usually wears a mask and covers as much of himself as he can to blend in. He also uses a cane and compression sleeves for his joints.
Michael has been trying to find his father for years now to no avail. He knows that Vincent knows SOMETHING, but he isn’t sure what. Freddy’s isn’t super accessible to him since he doesn’t have a kid, but Vincent will often let him in just to drag him around, mess with him, and then show him the door with 0 information gained.
Michael is dating Vanessa, who is a professional gamer/streamer, and lives with her.

New Year, New Trolls
(page 1089-1099)
So far, every scene of Homestuck has taken place on John, Rose, Dave or Jade’s birthday. I’m also really excited that the Dave flashback we got a glimpse of on page 1073 is real and here, even if his city looks miserable in December. And page 1089 includes an absolute top tier line: ‘When [John] sees your staggering gesture of sentimentality he will finally understand. He will understand that in the game of facetious sentimental gestures, no one gets the best of Rose Lalonde.’
It’s also fun learning that both Rose and Dave have changed their desktop wallpapers recently! I’m delighted to know that Rose Lalonde’s previous wallpaper was the official art for the Call of Cthulhu card game – sorry, the Foretelling of Fluthlu card game – with a heavy purple filter applied. I believe this edition is from 2008 and Rose is definitely playing it. Meanwhile, Dave has chosen an officially licensed Starsky & Hutch wallpaper, released by Warner Bros. as promotional material before the movie’s 2004 release. Dave has removed the ‘In Theaters March 5’ but kept everything else identical. Ironically, I’m sure.
John’s Letters
John is the sweetest, and I wish he could see more of his own strengths and wasn’t dunking on his own drawings here. His letters are very different to how he communicates via Pesterchum – he’s expressing feelings towards his friends far more strongly here, and he’s also showing a deeper understanding of them than usual. It must be easier for him to express himself with that extra layer of distance, having time to think about his words and knowing that he won’t get a direct response.
John casually drops that Rose has been his friend ‘all these years’, so they’ve known each other since they were… 8 or 9, maybe? That’s a reasonable age to be on the internet and proficient with typing, and see each other as old friends by 12 or 13. I mean, they’ve probably been friends for 4 years and 13 days at the start of the story, so that fits.
John knowing what a wet T-shirt contest is feels pretty jarring, and totally came from whatever movie he watched the night before writing this. More obviously in character is John saying ‘they're totally authentic! they actually touched ben stiller's weird, sort of gaunt face at some point’ in his December letter to Dave, and then using the exact same phrasing via Pesterchum the following April - ‘you do realize they touched stiller's weird, sort of gaunt face at some point’ (p.110). It’s also extremely heartwarming that Dave immediately takes off the shades that match his brother’s and puts on the new ones he got from his best friend, and then never switches back. John says ‘i think you just gotta get out of your bro's shadow and spread your wings dude!!!’ and Dave actually listens. That’s a hard thing to do all at once, but a big first step, and it only happened because Dave had support from an actual cool person in his life.
Here’s the thing: John loves his friends. Jade’s visions and their importance suggest that a lot of Homestuck is about predestination, and that it’s possible that at least John and Jade’s meeting was fated or engineered. But even if all four kids only met because of something Jade saw in dreams, that doesn’t create love! They’re still the kids who put in the effort to connect despite all their differences and who go above and beyond to care for each other and show love on each other’s birthdays! At this point John knows nothing about any predestination, he just knows that these people mean a lot to him and he wants them to know that.
Act 3 began with a page titled ‘Dear John,’ (p.759), showing us Nanna’s message inside Colonel Sassacre’s tome, and now we’ve got ‘dear rose,’ (p.1091) and ‘dear dave,’ (p.1097), so I am calling it now that the final page of the act will be a Dear Jade.
grimAuxiliatrix
carcinoGeneticist was a very disappointing and uncreative troll when we met on page 859, but grimAuxiliatrix is a master at work, and their pesterlog with Rose is a joy to read. GA’s gambit of claiming to be an alien out of sync with Earth’s time and used to dealing with species of far superior intellect is hilarious, I would actively enjoy getting trolled by them, and of course Rose would be compelled enough by the game to accidentally in some way fall for it. The ‘beginning every word with a capital letter’ is a nice touch that does make them sound more alien. Rose and Dave’s banter is great but I feel like GA challenges Rose more than Dave does, and definitely has a more similar vocabulary. Describing time as ‘A Utility That A Universe May Resort To In Order To Advance A Desired Degree Of Complexity’ is interesting, and suggests the possibility of a universe that does not utilize time – the Incipisphere, perhaps?
It seems like Rose isn’t fully buying GA’s claim to have spoken to future Rose, but we know from her relationship with Jade that she’s not fully closed off to the supernatural, so I’m hoping this previous/next conversation comes around soon.
adiosToreador
While John and Jade’s instincts are to avoid messages from the trolls, Rose and Dave’s are to play the trolls at their own game. Dave and AT’s conversation is equal parts disgusting and disturbing and contains several phrases I wish I’d never read, and hope to never read again. But essentially they’re playing online gay chicken, and Dave is willing to take it much further. GA referred to a group that is ‘All Already In Agreement’, but they could be a leader of the group, and AT a more unwilling follower who doesn’t take to trolling so well. It seems like they’re going for a mix of CG’s aggression and GA’s wordiness and not really succeeding with either, and having this easy target for bullying brings out the worst in Dave, so I’m not on anyone’s side here. They’re both knowingly trying to upset each other, and I think it is believable that they would talk like this, but I don't want any part of it.
This is also, technically, the act’s title page – Dave drops the phrase ‘insane corkscrew haymakers’ towards the end of the page, in a context I don’t especially want to explore in depth. It’s a fun phrase out of context but I too would block Dave for some of the other stuff he says.
Troll Theories
It would be way too much of a coincidence if, in a story where some locations exist ‘untouched by the flow of time’ of others, these trolls were just regular people on Earth making this all up. I personally think the trolls are currently on the ominous planet, and are specifically trying to cause problems for these Sburb players. I’m not sure if they are part of the game – either a random rival group of players admitted to the same session, or a group of NPCs – or if they’re hackers who have infiltrated this session against the game’s wishes. If they are hackers, they could end up being technically ‘good’ if they’re working against Sburb itself, but will probably still have different goals to the kids.
If they’re planted by Sburb and there are twelve of them aligned with the ominous planet, and only four fighting on behalf of Prospit, this could explain why the forces of light are destined to lose. If that’s the case, the game has a social angle – if Rose can convince GA that it’s smarter to fight for the light, and if Dave can bully AT into doing the same, then John and Jade only need to sway one person each for an evenly matched, fair fight. I also think it’s possible that the Midnight Crew is four of these guys, although I don’t have any thoughts as to which, or to who the other eight would be.
> Dave: Break old sunglasses in annoyance.

Heeey! Idk if someone has already asked you this but, if you could recommend three Stony fanfics which ones would you recommend? And What made you ship them? :] Also love ur writing!
IT'S MY NEW STONY MUTUAL YIPPIE ✨ HI FRIEND. Sorry for the late reply, been busy in my own way. I'm so happy to hear from you! 😸
that is a tough question...
Principles of the Thing by Annie D (scaramouche)
In Tony’s opinion, the only thing worse than having a crush on Steve is: having a crush on Steve while Steve won’t shut up about how great Tony is.
Mainly recommending this because the author's Stony fics are all amazing. They're a fantastic writer and I'm sure there's something there for everyone; I'm still making my way through them and I'm never disappointed! This fic in particular is very sweet and adorable, plus it has my favourite Stony fanfiction device—it's told from a self-deprecating Tony's perspective <3 that's how you know it's gonna be a good one 😌 I need my man to hate himself a little thankyouverymuch. I also think it's cute to have Steve be virtuous in a very sweet gentleman way, instead of the hurting-Tony way (although I like that way a lot too)
Loverboys by theappleppielifestyle
“Here’s the deal,” Tony says. “I’ll give you ten thousand dollars to pretend to date me.”
Steve stares at him, but only for a second.
“No thanks,” he says, and looks back down at his algebra worksheet.
(Or, a High School Fake Dating AU.)
I have a soft spot for high school and college AUs okay, sue me! Why I particularly like it for Stony, and what this fic does beautifully, is it uses their class disparity as a point of contention for their characters and relationship. I like young!Tony fics because we see the trauma of his family life and circumstances affecting him in real time. I love to hate Howard Stark <3 plus Stony is all about the tension of their opposing personalities, and AUs like this help highlight Tony's distant family and extreme wealth, and Steve's poverty and loving support system. This fic is also fake dating, which means ✨tension✨. Plus Tiberius Stone is a total guilty pleasure character of mine. Tony has many evil ex's in the comics, and I love to see them used for some good whump. And jealous protective Steve is absolute gold!!! Even if you don't like high school AUs this one is worth a shot because it wasn't written by a high schooler like many are, so it's mature and paced very well.
the girl with the modern face by isozyme
“Nice to meet you. I’m Steve Rogers,” Steve said, sticking his hand out and trying to wrestle the interaction back into something normal.
“I know, sweetheart,” Tony said, ignoring his hand. “Rescue told me all about you.”
“Did you make her?” Steve asked. It had been implied that Tony was a tech-man, and she said he was her boss. It would fit together.
“Yes, the armor, that was me; she’s my bodyguard,” Tony said archly. “Impressed?”
The only good thing about the future is Tony Stark's bodyguard, Rescue. She's beautiful in her red and gold armor, and Steve will never know who she is.
This story changed my brain chemistry when I read it. It's just such a fantastic culmination of so many delicate and beautiful things. Internalized homophobia and identity porn are severely underrated tropes and two of my all time favourites. I find it's hard to get them right, but boy does this story get them right. Also—genderfucked Tony Stark? Yes Yes and Yes. Steve falls for a woman, who is actually a man, who is actually Tony Stark. This hurts both of their feelings immensely. I love the tight-wound Captain and seeing him come to terms with his struggles and bigotry. And the juxtaposition to a flamboyant and open Tony, yessirrrr. Also, comic Stony fics are on a whole other level. They have so much more material to work from, so their characterization and background is really well fleshed out. You don't need to read the comics to understand it, don't worry.
—
I just love talking about this stuff, I will never be short or chill about asks 😅
What made me ship Steve and Tony? Oh GAWSH. Mainly, their opposing natures. Nothing is more compelling than seeing people so close yet so different have this intense magnetism. It's like a puzzle piece, they fit so well because they complete something in each other.
Rivals/enemies creates a lot of tension, especially when they have such a respect and trust for one another even if they don't always like it, it's undeniable. The betrayal and disagreement between them is painful because only those inside your heart can wreck it so intensely. I really like angst, whump, miscommunication, the push and pull. It's so them. They aren't rivals TO friends, they are rivals AND friends. Tony is incredibly Much, Steve is rigid. Tony is controlled by his emotions, Steve is controlled by his morals. Tony is an over-thinker, Steve is all intuition.
Also, have you SEEN the way they look at eachother?!?!? The gazing omfggg. The way they lead together, have such an intense relationship, perfectly in-sync even in disagreement. Their movies? Never without insanely strong feelings for each other, arm touches and long looks, trust broken and rebuilt. TV shows? Eye rolling yet great respect, a deep admiration that will always trump any mistake or disagreement. Bickering boyfriends. Comics? They're so intense everyone just KNOWS something freaky is going on. Divorced /pos. It's always hate or love, these two can never be neutral. Their relationship is incredibly dynamic—they're so soft for each other! They hate each other's guts! They are gonna fuck about it! All three at the same time.
ty for the compliment 🫶 yes this is yap city but I am a very passionate person mk. I could talk about them for hours 💕💔

Random Thoughts about The Heart Killers (EP 1 – 6) : An interesting Rom-Com with morally grey characters.
The long awaited post I've wanted to make, but always failed to do properly. Since we are not getting an episode today (which is a damn crime because the wait is killing me!), I've decided to feed my poor soul with some writing about the series. I won't add anything that haven't already been said on here, so I won't feel sad if you don't pay attention to this post. It's just me screaming in the void of internet to try thinking about something else. I knew I would like this series (I like the actors, the directors, the plot… everything has been set according to my own taste), but I try to reason with me. You shouldn't put too many expectations on a series, otherwise you're at a risk of being disappointed. I also give better advice that I never really follow, so yes I had expectations and until now they have been fulfilled. I would be lying if I didn't say that at one point or another I was really annoyed by the characters' actions. I tend to forget that the series is 12 episodes and I'm looking forward to seeing the sweet scenes between the main couples (real ones with no lying). I was promised a rom-com, so don't be mad at me for being a little fool here. I'm a bit impatient as you can see. However, I know that I shouldn't react in the heat of the moment so I waited until now to write something about The Heart Killers.
Usually, in a rom-com you get characters that are archetypes usually found in this type of story. In the Heart Killers, most of the characters are neither good neither totally evil (except maybe Mother, but she may also have a good side, who knows). All characters have their strengths and weaknesses and they may appear on different sides, but they all have a strong, justifiable reason for doing what they are doing. I've making this grid for a while now. I may have forgotten some information, but it's just my own perception of the series so far. Things may change in the coming episodes.
So why was I annoyed by the characters at one point or another? I guess one part of the reason is that I forgot the structure of a rom-com because of the unique setting the screenwriters and the director put our main characters in. Any rom-com follows a certain structure in three times I would say.
• The first part is the presentation of the setting, the characters and their unfulfilled needs.
• The second part is when you have the meet-cute (or not so cute) between the characters. It is followed by the honeymoon stage until obstacles arise at the midpoint and the relationship is in jeopardy (that's where we are right now in the story). Usually, it's when the couple break up or start to have doubts.
• The third and final part is the moment of realization where the characters can view themselves outside the relationship and decide what are their new desire and goals. It leads everyone to the final of the story that usually ends on a happy note or at least give the viewers some hope for the characters if they don't end up together (my personal choice would be a happy ending for everyone, but I like to be surprised).
We've seen the first part already and have moved on the second part. I believe in the Heart Killers the break-up part could be different. Will the characters really break-up now that they think they have understood the needs of the others?! I don't think so. I believe they are all going to pretend to be together to try to outmatch the other ones and to learn the truth. They believe they are in opposite sides, but the truth is their main enemy who is working against their desire/happy ending remains Mother and to a lesser extent Keen (until Mother works against him and he may become an ally to the main leads). We could probably add the Captain too.
So, even knowing that, the question remains: why was I annoyed by the characters, despite loving everything else?! It's because I viewed them through my own sets of value while forgetting who they are and the setting of the series. To be fair, I'm used to rom-com characters who usually are not morally wrong. Here, in this story, none of them is really right or wrong. After all, they are on different standpoints and the perspectives they can reach are not the same. They represent different sides with different views (sorry I'm rambling here). I would say, Style may be the only characters who didn't have a criminal past and his worst fault is that he didn't flirt (at first) with Fadel for love, but for greed to possess Kant's car. The other characters, Kant, Bison and Fadel, all are or were a criminal at one point. Does it mean that criminals can't fall in love because what they are doing is morally wrong? The story doesn't agree with this point, as all of them were dragged to this because of something external. Kant needed money to take care of his brothers and Fadel and Bison were forced into this line of work by their “guardian” Mother who pretends to make them go after other “criminals” because the justice system isn't doing the right wrong. In some way, she isn't wrong, as the only “justice” figure we meet in the story is Captain Christ. He isn't a nice guy too as he is threatening Kant to force him to do his work in exchange for freedom from his past.
The idea of writing morally grey characters is interesting as it maintain the suspense, both in the relationship between the main leads, but also in the core structure of the story. The characters had needs at the beginning of the story, but their desire slowly changed by interacting with their lovers and other characters. It is also good for viewers as they have the opportunity to prefer one side over the other one. I changed my mind a lot during those six episodes. I was feeling terribly sorry for Bison when I saw Kant's playing with his heart, but in the last two episodes, I understood how hard it must be for him to keep pretending while also falling in love, despite knowing the truth. I was amused by Style's aggressive flirting with Fadel, but also felt annoyed on behalf of Fadel as I noticed how his "secret life" was putting a toll on his mental health. Choosing to have morally grey characters work better with the setting of the story. Otherwise, who would root for hitmen to fall in love? The fact we care so much about the actions of the main characters and what impact it will have on their romantic relationship, confuse us and make us anticipate the next move they may make. It also allows the true villains of the story to actively continue working against our main leads' happiness. The ones who really gain from the new feud between the main couples are the Captain and Mother. They may believe they are in their rights, but they use the main characters as chest pieces, without regard for the toll it can have on their well-being.
Mother is using the maternal figure she has set to control Fadel and Bison's action. She is pretending to care about them. She willfully taught them how to be hitmen to supposedly kill other criminals. The reason may appears good, but the actions are not valid. You can't Pay Evil unto Evil. She pushed our characters in this place by using the death of their parents as an example of failed justice. She knows much buttons to push to keep them in the place she wants them to be. Mother pretends to understand that they are tired of being hitmen and that this job will be the last one, but will it really be the last one? She also purposely and actively works against their happiness, by keeping them lonely. Bison and Fadel may think they are in controls, but the viewers can see, they don't really have a say in their actions or life. They never settled before and they don't really know how to. They find a different way to cope with this, but deep down they are still prisoners of what Mother has made of their life. As for Kant, he is also being controlled by the Captain who knows about his desire to protect and care about his younger brother. He uses his criminal past to make him an informant. Unlike Mother who pretends to act as a true mother to the brothers, he doesn't lie about his real view of Kant. However, just like her, he knows much buttons to push to keep Kant working for him.
As for me now, I can’t wait for Bison, Kant, Fadel and Style to overcome the lying part and the feeling of betrayal they will have regarding their relationship, so they can all be on the same side and fight against their real enemies.

The worst thing i realised about the break (NOT A BREAK UP FIGHT ME) was that, ngl, we BT fans really dragged about 'the writer' being on our side, but now, I think he dislikes fandom spaces in general.
(And i also think his way of writing is very weird and unfairly unpredictable, but to each their own eh)
Hi Nonnie!
Listen, I won't fight you because half the time my mindset is the same as yours haha so I am totally okay with calling it a break. And honestly? I think you make a very good point.
I personally didn't think he was on our side per se, but I did think he disliked that side of the fandom, and saw that, in comparison, our side was respectful and genuinely appreciative of the series. Perhaps it was naive to think like that, I don't know at this point tbh.
And listen, Tim is free to do whatever he wants. It's his show. But:
-I agree his writing (especially as of late) has been weird, predictable, and honestly, very lazy. And very, very frustrating. It seems like he's just bored with the characters, or the show altogether, and as a viewer it is a bad feeling to get when you're watching a show.
-I want to preface this by saying I know this is just my impression, and not necessarily something he's done or does, but with the way he wrote 8a for me it wasn't just him showing he dislikes fandom spaces in general. Because, sure, he made sure to have a moment where Eddie 'broke' Buddie by stating he's straight, but factually? He also gave (in the same episode) the fucking couch scene. He can pretend he dislikes that side of the fandom by being shady from time to time, but he still caters to them. And with the way he wrote the show, it truly felt like he was rewarding their toxic behavior. Which, again, does not feel good as a viewer and as a fan.
Idk. One thing I know after this whole shit show is that it is unlikely for me to check another show he creates, knowing his background and the way he writers. Perhaps the spin-off just to see what it is about, but that's a strong maybe.
Anyway, my inbox is open for ranting, venting, giving your opinion (unpopular or popular, I'm happy to receive and discuss both), and even confessions!
Take care <3

So I've said multipe times now (here and here) that thinking nmj is just so blinded by privilege he doesn't undertand that acting out of line gets people killed is, in my opinion, a misunderstanding of his character that ignores the part where he's, you know, actively dying the whole time and thinks that's a good thing. But that doesn't mean I don't think privilege plays no role at all in how he views the world.
Specifically, his view that death (at least premature or violent death) means something.
Death isn't always a tragedy to NMJ, but it is always meaningful. If you kill an evil dangerous person for your righteous cause, that death had meaning. There was evil in the world and now there is less of it. Similarly, if you die in the pursuit of your righteous cause, that death has meaning, because the sheer dedication you gave to it that you were willing to die for it will further that cause, and your bretheren will be invigorated by your sacrifice to fight even harder.
If a death isn't meaningful, that's an injustice and it is up to the living to give it meaning. That's what cuts so deep about his father's murder. There were no consequences, no changes, no meaning. Wen Ruohan was just going to get away with it! He fights and wins an entire war to make it mean something, to make it so that the unjust murder of Nie Mingjue's father is part of Wen Ruohan's downfall.
But this is a view he can only hold because he's the kind of person who's death will be meaningful. Most ordinary people's deaths are meaningless. Not ontologically, not inherently, but they are made meaningless because no one cares. For death to be meaningful you either have to be so powerful that anything you risk your life for will be impacted in some way. (Like, say, if you sacrifice a long life for immense martial power in a faustian bargain with a blade) Or if people with that kind of power care enough about you to do so for you. For most people, this isn't true. A starving street kid has no power to change the unfair world that put them there, even if they risk their life trying, and no one will do it for them once they die.
Nie Mingjue knows this in abstract, and of course rightfully believes it's wrong. But all that does is make it yet another righteous cause people should be willing to die for. Everyone's deaths should mean something, we'll make it so or die trying!
This is what the conflict between nieyao is about at its core. Because Jin Guangyao, fundamentally, cannot conceive of his own death as meaningful. Nie Mingjue grew up around powerful men who could change the world but refuse to do so because god forbid they risk a single hair on their perfect heads. Meng Yao, on the other hand, grew up in an environment where no one of importance would blink twice if you died. He was surrounded by meaningless death. Indeed his entire early life is defined by that lack of care.
Meng Shi dies and no one cares. Meng Yao gets thrown off a flight off stairs and no one cares. He has to be the one to do the caring, and once he's gone no one else will do it for him.
So he has to live.
Jin Guangyao eventually gets far enough that he actually does aquire the power to change some things... as long as he's alive. If he changes too much, holds on too tightly to his ideals, he'll die and it'll all be for nothing. He can't sacrifice himself for his goals because doing so would immediately render those goals unobtainable. No one will care about what he tried to do. He won't be a heroic sacrifice, he'll just be trash that finally cleaned itself up.
And well... Nie Mingjue dies, and someone makes it mean something. Makes it mean so much that the entire story of mdzs would not exist without it. Jin Guangyao dies and it doesn't mean anything. Most people are glad to be rid of him, and the few that are not don't do anything to change that.
#mdzs#mdzs meta#nie mingjue#jin guangyao#meng yao#nieyao#of course the inherent tragedy is that nmj is totally THE guy to ask if you want your death to mean something#nmj's reaction the the fact that most ppl's deaths are meaningless is to go: yes and I should change this.#If everyone thought like me this wouldn't happen anymore I simply need to get EVEN MORE HARDCORE about justice to MAKE them care#and this quality- which makes him the one person perhaps capable of making jgy's death mean something- also makes him a threat to his life#so jgy kills him because he needs to live. And then his beliefs about the meaninglessness of his own death are doomed to be true#what else was he supposed to do? just die and TRUST that someone would make it mean something?#like his mother trusted that his father would come back for them?#of course he can't do that.#just like how nmj's upbringing means that by the stairs he can't see how jgy- son of a sect leader and extremely capable-#is any different from the men who wrung their hands and told him that wen ruohan is just *too powerful* they can't do anything about him.#(*guy who killed wrh and wil go on to kill jgs voice* i just can't do anything about my dad being evil)#if jgy had agreed to risk his life and asked nmj to make it mean something if he died nmj would have said yes.#which is why he can't understand jgy wouldn't just ASK that.#jgy meanwhile has not been informed that was a fucking option and if he was wouldnt be able to trust that it'd actually happen.#for reasons outlined above#ahhh tragedy and inability of characters to understand each other i love you
